Edward Burne-Jones’ The Adoration of the Magi captures the sacred moment of the Nativity with lush Pre-Raphaelite detail and tapestry-inspired design. Mary sits gracefully in a rose-covered manger, gently holding the infant Jesus. To her left, Joseph stands with an axe and bundle of sticks at his feet, while an angel in brocade robes and green wings hovers nearby, holding a glowing star. The three kings kneel reverently, offering their crowns along with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
The scene is set against a shadowed woodland with a reflective pond that catches the star’s radiance, and surrounded by Madonna lilies and floral details in the style of traditional tapestries. Designed in 1887 for Morris & Co., this magnificent piece was also painted by Burne-Jones in an alternate palette. This pattern is solidly stitched. Any color fabric may be used.
