In The Dancing Class (circa 1870), Edgar Degas captures a bustling rehearsal room at the Paris Opera. Ballerinas in white tulle dresses stretch, gossip, and practice at the barre in front of tall mirrors that reflect their movements. An elderly violinist, seated on a piano bench with his back to the grand piano, prepares to play. His sheet music sits in an inverted top hat, and a watering can nearby is used to sprinkle rosin on the floor. This was the first of Degas' ballet dancer paintings. This pattern is solidly stitched. Any color fabric may be used.
