In this solemn scene from the Arthurian legends, Edward Burne-Jones depicts Sir Gawaine and Sir Uwaine arriving at a deserted chapel on their quest for the Holy Grail. After a long journey, they are denied entry by an angel who reveals they are unworthy due to a lack of charity, virtue, and faith. A radiant light glows from within the chapel, hinting that the Grail is near—but just out of reach. This is one of the "Quest for the Holy Grail" tapestries created for Morris & Co., completed in 1895–96 in the Pre-Raphaelite style. This pattern is solidly stitched. Any color fabric may be used.
