The famed ronin, or wandering samurai, Miyamoto Musashi, spearing a nue. A nue is a legendary creature with the head of a monkey, the body of a racoon dog, the legs of a tiger, and a snake's tail, and it can transform itself into a black cloud and become airborne. This particular monster appears to be more of an alligator or dragon. Miyamoto Musashi was a real person but after his death many incredible stories were told about him, giving him a larger-than-life persona. Here he stands with one foot on the nue as he stabs it, scowling fiercely. (This version omits the text annotations of the original.) This pattern is solidly stitched. Any color fabric may be used.
